The Fantastic Overthought Redesign by ysucae The Fantastic Overthought Redesign by ysucae
For another round of Project:Rooftop... A study of the Fantastic Four and their evolution.

Brought back the Four in their original setting, which was in the sixties when there was the moon landing race between the US and the USSR. Reed Richards would be co-hired by NASA and the US military to invent a spacecraft that would get them to space. It doesn't work and the project is swept under the rug. Reed does it anyway and boom, radiation.

Sue would begin with only invisibility, but then would go on to grow more and more powerful and discover her inner strengh. (feminism analogy somewhere)

Johnny is a would-be James Dean-style bad boy who works out and flunks school for thrills, he still does it but now he has the passion to fly, and is getting interested in war history and old planes. He likes leather jackets.

Ben would not see any change at first, but before long his skin would harden and change color, and rocks would begin to grow on it. If he's not careful, the rocks could grow over his joints and leave him stuck as a living statue; since he's a rightie, his left arm is bigger and rockier because he use it less. With the help of Reed he managed to slow the rock formation down but he will still have a hard time with his flexibility.

Reed is Reed and I want a movie with him and Iron Man in filthy rich middle-aged white guys shenanigans damnit.

Sai, photoshop, no BG because no time. Everything is (c) Marvel.
Shield brush isn't mine but I don't remember where I got it.

The first time I _ever_ saw the Fantastic Four, it was after I saw an episode of the old SPIDER-MAN & HIS AMAZING FRIENDS on a local UHF-type station. It was the episode with the Sandman, so when I first saw the Thing, I thought he would be like the Sandman, but made of rocks and pebbles instead of sand. I eventually figured he was more the Hulk with a crunchy shell, but still the idea stuck with me.

I mention that as your formations of the Thing here kinda match how I imagined my supposed "living rock" Thing looking at first whenever he had to reassemble himself.

yeah, I was sad that they never went with "living rock/carapace on the skin", I think it would be interesting and more than just a rocky hulk.
thanks for the comment :)

They're all really good, but I'm mostly focused on your redesign of Ben Grimm. You're really pushing the grotesque angle with that Thing and I think it's remarkable. Maybe it would have been better if the movie Thing was designed by the Jim Henson company? Something along the lines of a Labyrinth denizen.

yesss, something really outlandish, not just a "rock-man". It always frustrates me that they never try to change his appearance, play with his powers.
I like how you think.

J'adoooore!!
